Remove the bandage:
After a few hours, remove the bandage provided by your tattoo artist.
Cleanse the area:
Wash your tattoo gently with fragrance-free soap and lukewarm water, using only your hands. Avoid harsh soaps, scrubs, or washcloths.
Pat dry:
Gently pat the area dry with a clean paper towel. Avoid rubbing, as this can irritate the healing skin.
Moisturize:
Apply a thin layer of a fragrance-free lotion or ointment (like Aquaphor) to the area. Avoid Vaseline, petroleum jelly, Neosporin, or Bag Balm, as they can trap moisture and hinder healing.
Protect from sticking:
Wrap the tattoo in saran wrap at night to prevent it from sticking to bedding.
Day 3-4 and Beyond:
Continue cleaning: Wash the tattoo gently 1-2 times daily with soap and water.
Moisturize regularly: Apply a thin layer of lotion or ointment as needed, usually 1-2 times daily, to keep the area hydrated.
Avoid tight clothing: Wear loose, breathable clothing to prevent friction and irritation.
Protect from sun: Avoid direct sunlight on the tattoo, as it can damage the ink and delay healing.
Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water to help keep your skin moisturized.
Avoid swimming: Avoid swimming, baths, or prolonged submersion in water for at least two weeks to prevent infection and damage to the tattoo.
Do not pick at scabs: Allow scabs to heal naturally and avoid picking or scratching the area, even if it itches.
